Emergency Care

Urgent medical services when your pet needs it the most.

Pets are members of the family. They should have access to the same comprehensive care as the rest of your loved ones, including in emergency situations. At Jane Animal Hospital, we offer emergency services for your four-legged friend. Our licensed veterinarians can quickly diagnose and treat injuries and sicknesses in your pet. We are open six days a week (excluding Sundays). To learn more or schedule an appointment today, give us a call at 416-762-5558.

What are signs that my pet needs to go to the ER?

Some situations are more urgent than others. As a pet owner, it's important to differentiate between a standard health situation and an emergency.

Here are the signs your pet needs immediate medical care:

  • Sudden swelling of a body part
  • Car accident or another incident
  • Slips and falls
  • Pulse changes and breathing changes
  • The animal is clearly hurt, as they are whimpering or mewling
  • Limping
  • Prolonged diarrhea and vomiting
  • Broken or fractured bones
  • Wounds, especially bleeding ones

What should I do if my pet is going through a medical emergency?

First, please call us right away so we are able to arrange an appointment with our doctors or provide you with emergency contact information. We reserve several last minute emergency appointments each day which are booked on a first-call first-serve basis in the event of sudden illness or injury. Calling earlier in the day will provide you with a better chance at securing an urgent appointment. Once we have helped you come up with a plan for your pet's urgent care, carefully take your pet to our hospital or the nearest emergency facility for further treatment.

For after-hours emergencies, contact these veterinary hospitals.
