As veterinary technicians we do a lot of things behind the scenes that most owners may not realize. The role of a technician is very similar to that of a nurse to a doctor.Technicians don’t only hold your pet during an exam they also take your pet’s history during the exam and prepare medications. We take samples such as blood and urine as well as give them nail trims and take x-rays when needed. Technicians will put your pet under an anesthetic, and monitor them during the procedure to make sure it all goes smoothly. Technicians will clean your pet’s teeth as well as take x-rays of their mouth while they are sedated. We will stay with your pet while they safely recover from a procedure and cuddle them until they are awake and ready to go home. Technician will stay with your pet giving them love, kisses and lots and lots of treats.
This week is veterinary technician week so we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to give you the run down on what they do. Now next time you are in an appointment with your cat or dog you will have a little more knowledge on the veterinary technician's role in your furry friends visit.
